      Changing records into field data


      I have a new patient database set up from an excel sheet. As it currently stands, all of my records in my patient's table contain records for each person. However, not all records are patients. One could be a patient and the next two could be the parents. I would like to find a quick way to combine records so that a patient's records contain all of their parent's information. Right now they all have unique ID numbers, but also have corresponding family numbers. Do you have any suggestions for combining these records?

               Change your thought process....

               Don't "combine" the parents onto the patient record...the parents might be patients too....

               Instead, "relate" the parent's record to the patient record.

               Create a self join to your patient record, and relate the parent's patient record.  Both will be separate records, but you'll now have access to Mom & Dad's info on your patient layout.
