Changing the input of Dates
I was just wondering if there is a way to change the way we input dates in Filemaker 12, instead of mm/dd/yyy to dd/mm/yyyy?
In the "Inspector" go to Data Formatting under the Data tab. Select the Calendar Icon then set format to Custom, then set your date as desired.
I've already done that i can change how the date looks, but i can't change how i input the date.
This is based on the location options specified for your operating system and what you have selected In the Data Entry section of the Text Tab found when you open File Options from the File Menu.
If your location settings specify the "Non-US" date format of DD/MM/YYYY, then FileMaker files will, with the correct options selected, expect and validate using date format when entering dates.
But when i go to file options and text menu,
I only see text handling and data entry. I did not see the location opetions.
That is correct. It is: "In the Data Entry section of the Text Tab found when you open File Options from the File Menu"
Note that if you don't want to change your location settings, but need to change the data entry format for dates, it's possible to do this with a script trigger controlled script that uses OnObjectValidate (must have FileMaker 11 or newer) to re-order the month and day values before field validation kicks in and tells you that 23 is too large a number for the month. Then date formatting can show the dd/mm/yyyy format once they have exited the field, so the user never knows that the date was supposed to be entered in the other format.
You also might avoid the issue all together by specifying the drop down calendar for data entry.
