      checkbox set question

      Post

      Hi all -

I have a database that I use to track program installs on specific computers.  Currently, I have a field for each program, for example, Acrobat Reader.  I set thefild to be a checkbox set, but I don't need any values for the checkboxes as I'm just checking them off to tell myself whether it was installed, so I'm just using a space as the value for the checkbox.

I'm trying to sort by the Reader field by whether the box is checked or not, but nothing happens...it won't sort at all.

Can someone enlighten me as to what I'm doing wrong?

      TIA,

      Jamie

Is the Reader field of type text or of type number? (With a space, it should be of type text.)

Many developers use a 1 as the value list for such a checkbox and then resize the field to hide the 1 from view--unless they use a table of related records in a portal where each record identifies one installed program for a given computer record--in which case they might use a drop down list of application names instead of check boxes.
