Create a calculation field (called "FullName") with the calculation...
MainPage::Surname & ", " & MainPage::FirstName
...and set the calculation result to "Text".
Note: the bit in red above is a double quote mark, a comma, a space and another double quote mark.
You can also get a bit more elaborate so that the comma doesn't appear if there is no first name entered:
MainPage::Surname & If ( Not IsEmpty ( MainPage::FirstName ) ; ", " & MainPage::FirstName ; "" )
You can leave out the last part of the If function: ; "" if you prefer--you'll get the same results.
That was going to be my next question. I have now combined a sting of values, including Middle Names and Address....
Is there a method of doing the same with <<merge fields>> , that is removing the spaces if the Fields are empty?
Not that I can see.
No problem, I will just have to replace most of my merge fields with combine fields.....
