Not Isempty ( FilterValues ( Table::Field A ; "continue" ) )
as a test that will be true only if the "continue" check box is selected.
Works great for the check box field but does not work for the other Edit box field which contains phrases or sentances. Is there a differnt command for words in a sentance?
Use pattern count for the edit box field.
I'm sorry I've never heard of "pattern count" Could you please be more specific?
You could look up that function in FileMaker help.
PatternCount ( Your field ; textyouaresearchingfor)
returns the number of times that textyouaresearchingfor appears in your field.
Sorry Still confused. I want Field D to grey out if the word "discontinue" appears anywhere in the edit box of Field C. I'm not understanding how counting the occurance of the word helps here... I looked it up in FM Help... I'm thinking that I have to add this pattern count thing into the formula somehwere?
If the number of times "discontinue" appears in the your edit box is zero, the word doesn't appear anywhere in your field, correct?
Use this as your conditional format expression:
PatternCount ( yourtable::Youreditboxfield ; "discontinue" )
That's all you need. If "discontinue" is not in the edit box field, this expression returns zero. In boolean expression such as a conditional format expression, any non-zero value evaluates as "True" and values of zero or no value, evaluate as "False".
Okay,I see I needed to specify the table occurance in the expression. Thanks Phil! Have a great week end!
