How do you fill it?
Do you click and drag or use an upload file feature?
I know that clicking and dragging doesn't always works, especially when you have the container save by reference.
If it is an image you can go into layout mode and go to the menu Insert -> Picture...
Or make a text field with only a space in it, then it can be filled with a color.
If any of those don't work let me know.
Is this a field with global storage specified? And is it hosted over the network?
If so, this is expected behavior for global fields. You'll need to make this change on the host computer. If you are using server to host the files, you can take the file down off the server, open it with FileMaker and insert or paste the rectangle, then put it back up on the server.
Here's a knowledgebase article on global fields that explains this in more detail: http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/5895/kw/global%20network
Thanks for the quick responses!
Yes, this is a global storage hosted over the network. Thanks, I will see if I can get in touch with the person who has control over the server.
A workaround is to use two container fields. Field 1 is a normal field defined in a utility table. field 2 is your global.
From a client session you can paste your rectangle into Field 1. Then use a script that runs every time the file is opened to copy the value from field 1 to field 2 with a set field step.
Great! Thanks, I will see if I can get it to work out.
Okay, so that worked out (the data persists from session to session) but I still can only see the highlights in Filemaker and not on the website.
If I access the website using an admin username/password, it works. But if I access as a student, the highlight does not show up.
Any ideas on how to tackle this?
What limitations have you set for the student privilege set? Is access to the table where you defined the global container field permitted for students?
I tried to give them "view only" privileges for the custom layout privilges and only viewing privileges of the table.
Oh I got it by just expanding the permissions set! Thanks very much for all of your help!

How do we do this?
