Well, you do the reverse, and if you are using FileMaker 11, you may then have to spend some time "tweaking" your layout to keep the page break from vertically splitting a row of text in the field.
Make your text field, two or more pages tall, then use the inspector to set the field, (and all objects next to/below it), to "slide up", "also resize enclosing part".
For more information on the vertical text split issue, see: FM11 printing? "Only one half of a line prints" again, like FM6

thanks for the response, but it didn't work.
How didn't it work?
How it didn't work might clue me in on a different suggestion or some detail on your part that may have been misunderstood or overlooked.
Been using sliding fields for many years, so I know it works, but also know that it has it's quirks and limitations.
Oh yes, I see by reading my last post that I left out a key detail: The sliding will only be visible when you preview, print or generate a PDF of your layout.
Okay. I'm using the template in FMP11 for recipes. The instructions for the recipes are longer than the space provided, but there's a scroll bar. So no worries there. However, when I go to print it ("recipe report") it cuts off the text and only prints one page. I tried what you suggested to allow it to go to the next page, but it didn't work.
Yes, but "how didn't it work?" This does indeed work, I've used it for as many years as I've used FileMaker and that's quite a few.
When you enter preview mode and look at your layout, what do you see?
I see that the instructions field comes right to the bottom of the Body layout part, did you first make the body part larger? (Drag down the dotted line boundary between the body and the footer before making the instructions field longer.)
