converting a number into random numbers and letters
We have a database that deals with confidential information. One of them is a personal identifier, which is a number. We need users to be able to enter the number, but then it needs to be converted in such a way users that potential hackers will not be able recognise or decipher it.
Is there a way to pseudoanoymise number strings, for example convert the number 1234567890 into Fe$9G&£@tHyN478-hsCd21 ? Obviously we would need to be able to access the original number.
Do you have FileMaker Advanced? If so, I'd take a look at some of the custom functions that you might find on the web site by Brian Dunning.
And FileMaker 13 has an option that encrypts the entire file that you might look at.
And I think there's probably a plug in or two that offers an encryption capability.
