Copy script doesn't work in web publishing

      Post

      Hello All,

We got a simple script that copy a filed. It works fine in Filemaker pro, but over the Instant Web Publishing, this function fails - it does not copy any thing from the filed. Any body knows why and how to solve it? We really need this function works as it will work with the Java applet, which reads the FM data from clipboard.

      Thanks in advance!!

          Sunny:

Instead of copying to the clipboard, put the contents into a variable.  The script would look something like the following:

          Set Variable [$var; <Field Name> ]

          ....

          Set Field [<New Field>; $var ]

This copies the contents of <Field Name> and puts it into the variable $var (COPY).  Then, after you switch layouts or whatever else you want to do, you put the contents of $var into the <New Field> (PASTE).

Let me know if this works.

            Hello TSGal,

Thanks for the quick reply. But we really need to copy datas to clipboard.. the way it works is, we generate some data from FM, and load the data to clipboard. Then Java applet retrieve these data from clipboard -- so clipboard likes the bridge between FM and Java Applet. This is the only way I can think for passing data from FM to Java applet...any other ways to go around it ?

            Thanks,

            Sunny

              Sunny:

Instant Web Publishing has its own internal clipboard.  If you set up the following script:

              Copy [Select; <Field Name> ]

You will see that after executing this script in IWP, pasting to another application will work.  However, if you have the script:

              Copy [Select; <Field Name> ]

              New Record/Request

              Paste [Select; <Field Name> ]

.... then the script does copy and paste the information from one field to the same field in a new record.  Still, the copied contents remain in the FileMaker clipboard.

One solution would be to export the copied information to a text file that the Java applet can read.

Does anyone else have a solution for Sunny?

It might be something the ScriptMaster plugin could handle, since it is Java-based. In any case it would be worth contacting the developers, 360Works support is excellent in my experience.

I've just been caught by this 'bug'.

Note when editing a script and Show Compatibility is set to Web Publishing the Copy and Paste script steps are fully available.

The online help for Copy, Home > Reference > Script steps reference > Editing script steps > Copy, states:

This script step is also supported in web publishing and in a FileMaker Server scheduled script.
