I have a calculation field which actually counts the number of meetings a member has attended - But I want to just count the numbers of meetings attended on the current year - how do we do this?

There are a lot of ways to do this, but probably the easiest one is to create a new relationship that uses the same keys as the existing member->meeting relationship (I assume you have that), but add in an additional relationship key of 'year'. In the meeting table, add a stored calculated field: Year( meeting date ). In the member table, define a new field 'current year': Year( Get(CurrentDate) ). Add these two fields to the relationships, and now you'll have a relationship to just meetings for the current year which you can easily count (with the count() function), show in a portal, or anything else.
