Filemaker doesn't have a Boolean type of field. You can (and should) use a Number field for this purpose. Filemaker interprets 0 or empty values as False, and any other (numeric) value as True.

Thanks for the info, however being new to this project, I still do not understand how I set the field up to be to use a checkbox or some other toggle to show a "yes" answer for my field.

This is done on the layout level, and it applies not to the field itself, but to a field's instance on the layout.
One way is to define a value list of only one value: 1, and format the field as checkbox set using the value list (you can hide the actual value and leave only the check mark to show). Another option is to format the field as Boolean and define it as a button that toggles the value.
