Creating button script for total beginner!

      Post

      Hi

I am using Filemaker Pro Advanced and very novice! I have a table called Customer record and a table called Order. On the Customer record I have created a button that I want to use to go to create a new order, carrying over the customer name, address etc. Should I use a script and if so, how should I set this up as I am new to databases and just learning. Any help would be very much appreciated! I may be going about this the wrong way but I want to keep it as simple as possible, and if anyone has experience of doing this simple step I would be pleased to hear from you.

      Thanks!

Store the ID of the customer into a variable, go the layout of the order, create a new record, and then set teh foreign key field in the Order record.

          Something like:

          Set Variable [ $customerID; pkCustomerID ]

Go to Layout [ Order ]

          Set Field [ fkCustomerID; $customerID ]

If you have FMP11 I would suggest taking a look at the invoices demo.
