Brand new to FileMaker Pro 12. Need to learn basics. Please guide just to 1) standard label with my return address, and then ) merge with database addresses to mail to
Yes but what kind of label stock and on what kind of printer? (plain paper or dedicated label printer such as a Dymo?)
Filemaker comes with a wizard that can create a label layout for you if your label stock comes with an avery number that is listed in one of the drop down fields you see when you use this method. If your labels do not fit one of these standardized label configurations, you can make a custom design.
And printing the same info on every label (your return address) will require a few differences in approach from printing every label with a different address.
Somehow missing something.
Step one: How design custom label to use. It sits there with my return address in to left of label - Avery 5164 design.
Step two: Now need to mail out this afternoon. there are 42 addresses in database of 2,000. I just need to merge the 42 to the custom label and print.
What to do???
Step one: When you are in browse mode, have you selected view as Form or view as list? With view as list, you should see a single column of addresses. To see the labels as they would print, enter preview mode to see if they preview correctly.
To print one address label for each of 42 records, perform a find for those 42 records or use Omit records to omit the records that you don't want for your address labels. Then print from your labels layout using the records being browsed option.
I got it - no sweat. It's simple once understood.
This is one of the few remaining parts of FileMaker that isn't really wysiwyg (what you see is what you get).
