Sounds like you need to check the External Data Sources in the databases. There might be a definition to a database that doesn't exist, or that has to be accessed remotely.

No, this is not normal behavior. It sounds like FileMaker Pro 10 is trying to open or access another file.
Try creating a new database file with one table and one field. Start entering data into multiple records. Does FileMaker Pro still take a long time to enter new information? If so, then there may be a problem with FileMaker Pro, and you should uninstall and reinstall the application. If data entry is quick, then you'll need to look at your original file more carefully for possible clues.
