PatternCount ( YourField ; "\"" )
Will return a value if a double quote has been entered into the field.
(To get a quote inside a quoted string put a backslash character in front of it.)
I have tried this:
PatternCount (itmItem_Description ; "\"" )
This returns a 0 (zero) for all records that contain any data whether or not there is a quotation mark in the text.
It should return a zero if there is no double quote in the field and the number of times it appears if it is present.
But smart quotes are different from straight quotes. It appears that you have enabled smart quotes in preferences.
so to detect the left smart quote use:
Patterncount ( self ; char ( 8220 ) )
Patterncount ( self ; char ( 8221 ) )
will detect a right hand smart quote character.
In a validation calculation you might use:
Not ( Patterncount ( self ; char ( 8220 ) ) + Patterncount ( self ; char ( 8221 ) ) )
Thank you! This worked perfectly!
