There's a simple date calculation that you can use. It's secret is that it generates the same date for all records of the same month:
use: Date ( Month (yourdatefield), 1 , Year (yourdatefield) )
Sort by this field and use this field as the "sort by" field in your sub-summary part.
thanks so much.
I'm half-way there.
it looks like all the records are grouped properly by month and year.
however the field is showing the date as a number (i.e., "733620")
how do you recommend I get it to show up as the month and year (i.e, "August 2009")?
nevermind. I actually figured it out on my own. I embedded the whole thing in a MonthName function.
thanks so much!
I wouldn't do that as it defeats some of the advantages of the date calculation. With the calculation as written you can easily sort the results in order from oldest to most recent.
You should modify the calculation so that it is set to return a date type, that way you don't get the large integer you are reporting.
Instead, simply format the field to only display the month and year on your layout.
How do i that when the field is not a date field, but a calculation field?
