PLEASE NOTE: Since AppleScript cannot dial the phone alone, the application ABDialer, available from Macron Software, is required for this solution to function. Automated Workflows, LLC does not sell licenses for or accept support inquiries regarding ABDialer. To order ABDialer or inquire about ABDialer support, please contact Macron Software.
Another FileMaker Phone Solution
In my March Mac 911 column I recommended a solution for adding phone-dialing capabilities to recent versions of FileMaker Pro (phone dialing was supported in older versions of FileMaker but has since disappeared). That solution was Automated Workflows’ $15 Dial Phone From X accompanied with Macron Soft’s $12 ABDialer 2.
Jon Nathan writes in to say that his $12 Jon’s Phone Tool —includes dialing from FileMaker Pro as well as many other applications. Additionally it can dial through a Bluetooth phone, your Mac’s modem or speakers, and works with Vonage, CallVantage, Skype, Ovolab Phlink, Parliant’s PhoneValet, an Asterisk PBX server, or X-Lite by Xten Networks, Inc.
It also includes a call timer, text-to-phone converter (for those times when you’d rather not search your phone for the translation to 1-800-NOSCROD), a dialing log, and a Lookup feature for quickly pulling up phone numbers stored in Apple’s Address Book, Microsoft’s Entourage, Now Software’s Now Contact, or Palm’s Palm Desktop.
It’s worth a look.
Ok I understand that part but can you use this and have a recording setup to call everyone in the database to and tell them weather alert, birthday wishes etc when you hit the call button.
Dial Phone was obsolete until FM Go came out and now it can be used to dial an iPhone. It was used with various widgits back in the day when dial up fax/modems were standard equipment on your computer.
Today, it can be difficult to find any hardware that works with it and a modern computer.
