Different records in one list view ?

      Post

Is it possible in FileMakerPro 7 or later to view different kind of records in the same list view? Here is my plan: you have several Projets and under every project are sveral tasks. I like to view all the actual projects and the tasks in the same list in the right order; example:

      - Project 1

           - Task 1.1

           - Task 1.2

           - Task 1.3

      -Project 2

           - Task 2.1

           - Task 2.2

      and so on...

In Fmp 7-9, yes but the sub headers (Project 1, Project 2) will only be visible in preview mode and when you print. In Browse mode, the sub heads will be invisible.

In FMP 10, they added the very nice feature that sub summary headers are now visible in browse mode.

Set your layout to List view.

Enter layout mode and use layouts | parts set up to ad a sub summary part.

          Click Create

choose Sub summary when sorted by...

Select your Project field as the "sorted by" field.

Click OK and done to return to your layout.

Place your Task field in the body.

Place your Project field in the Sub summary.

If necessary adjust the size of your sub summary and body layout parts.

Enter browse mode and choose Records | Sort Records

Sort the records by Project and Task fields.

If you are using version 9 or older, go to preview mode.

If you are using 10, stay in browse.

You should now see the report with the format you requested.
