I'm not too well up with printing as yet as the project I'm currently working on is not developed to that stage as yet.
"Most text messages of mine are exceeding the constraints of the row they are in"
I am assuming here that you are using a table view, and that is what you are sending to print.
From my knowledge of layouts, you will need to keep the size of the layout that is sent to print within the constraints of the page size. Try creating a list view that replicates a table which will allow you to increase the height of the field that contains the message.
I could be wrong here and this is something that I will be implementing soon, so any additional comments will be very welcome.
I have tried your suggestion out and while it does allow me to increase the size of the message-field, for some reason it does not show anything past the first message. So when I hit preview it looks like this:
DATE TIME TYPE MESSAGE
10-04-15 4:10pm Sent Hi, I'm trying to get Filemaker Pro to format properly :)
10-04-15 4:19pm Received
10-04-15 4:43pm Received
10-04-15 4:55pm Sent
It does not display any of the messages past the first one. I adjusted the size of the field so that it resembles a box that goes vertically below the Date/Time/Type fields, so it should theoretically be large enough for texts with a couple of paragraphs in them.
I'm really scratching my head over this.
Hmm. After playing around some more, I have been able to display all of the messages. Yet, it appears that each row is being spaced apart from each other according to the size of my message-field (which I modified as per your suggestion). This means I have some messages that are only one-line in length being treated as a huge paragraph. So there is a ton of empty space being displayed.
I'll continue to try a few other things and see how it goes.
.. And now I've figured it out :)
All I had to do was check the "remove blank by" and then checking "resize enclosing part" in layout view. It worked like a charm.
Thank you for your help. Problem solved!
