With the field set as a radio button on the entry layout and as a edit box on the print layout, you will be able to just click the buttons on entry and display the text on the print layout. IF you define your value list as ✓ Checked and Comments, you can just make the text field on your print layout 1 character wide so it will show the ✓ of the C.
If that doesn't work you can make a second field that is a calculation Case (yourtable::yourfield ; "Checked" ; "✓" ; "C")
You can also put ✓ and C on your report layout as layout text, with conditional formatting that makes the text disappear when it shouldn't be visible. (Set the font size to 500 with your conditional format to make layout text invisible.)
I did not want to change the original values so I went with creating a new field for my print view with the following calculation:
Case ( Field = "Checked" ; "✓" ; Field = "Comments" ; "C" )
Thank you. I now understand how case calculation works.
