Do embedded files slow down hosted databases?

I'm creating a mobile version of my database to host on FMP and access on FM Go using 3G and WiFi connections. Currently with no embedded files (in container fields), my database is 20MB; I also have about 100MB of files that are referenced in container fields. With this setup, it runs quickly on a 3G connection. I was wondering what would happen if I made all those files embedded instead, therefore making them accessible on my iOS devices. Would the speed of the database drop much?

Note: only 1-2 users will use this database, probably never simultaneously.

Thank you for your help!
