Does FileMaker Pro 12 and 13 use same file format?
Does FileMaker Pro 12 and 13 use same file format? I ask because I'm considering upgrading to v13, but some colleagues use v12.
Yes, the File format and .fmp12 file extension are unchanged in FileMaker 13 when compared to FileMaker 12.
Thank you. This is helpful.
Any reason I should wait until FileMaker Pro 14 comes out? I know v13 has been out for a while.
Depends. What version are you currently using?
No, do not wait for a new version. You are missing out on a lot of features. 13 has tremendous features over 12.
Rick, the version I'm using is version 12. It belongs to the university I work at. If I purchase 13, it would be my own copy (at an educational discount). Still not sure if I should wait for 14 or get 13 now. I do personally own a much earlier version (version 7) :-)
I suggest downloading the 30 day free trial and giving it a "test drive" to see for yourself what new features you gain.
Ah! Didn't realize one could do that. Cool Definitely will do. I just finished a version of a publications database I've been working on and am eager to see if development would have been faster with v13.
I doubt that it would have been faster to develop, but it may have been much better. My personal favorites are "hide object when" and popovers.
For some examples of what you can do with popovers in FileMaker 13, download: "Adventures in FileMaking #2 - enhanced value selection".
Also, whether you purchase 13 or wait for the next version, I strongly recommend getting FileMaker Advanced. The developer tools in Advanced will save you many hours of development time and allow to produce even better designs than is possible with FileMaker through the use of custom menus and custom functions.
