It's an annoying fact of life that all of the "values" functions append a return to the end of the last value in the list. This is true even if you have a single element list to begin with.
Thanks for confirming and saving me the time in searching elsewhere. Is there another function or method I could use to trim that trailing return?

Left ( TextField ; Length ( TextField ) - 1 )
would do it.
Sometimes you can use:
Substitute ( Textfield ; "¶¶" ; ¶ )
to remove the value after you've appended the new value.
Got it -- that definitely makes sense. Since this is all being done in a global variable I'll have to see if there's something similar I can do without having to reference a field name.
Just use the variable where I have used a field.
