I have created a dynamic drop down list on 3 tables (Industry Category, Industry Subcategory, and Industry Details which is the join table)
And where in your screen shot is a table occurrence that represents Industry details?
I think you called it Industry_Display_Full, but it is not set up as a join table in a many to many relationship. There appears to be a field option on the account_ID field that is limiting a field in this table to unique values and that should not be the case for a join table as it is creating a one to one relationship with the account table.
when I try to add the fields from the join table to the accounts layout they are not active.
Did you enable "allow creation of records via this relationship" for the join table in the accounts to join table relationship?
Thanks so much for your reply. To answer the second part first, I have clicked the "allow creation of records via this relationship". I have actually adjusted the fields and the relationships a bit and have managed to get the fields working on the layout, however, now they are showing up and I'm able to select the name from the first field but the selection displays a number. Then I can pull up the second menu but nothing shows (because the number isn't a match to any of my value list categories). I've tried changing the field type from number to text and that doesn't work. I'll attach a few screen shots.
I understand why you say the Industry Display Full is not a join table, however it did work when it was not related to the accounts layout so it was functional. If you would be so kind as to take a look at my updated screen shots today I would appreciate your thoughts on where my problem lies. Do you believe it is still in the relationship created with the account_ID? Many thanks,
Another screen shot... thanks
Clearly, you have a value list that displays text but enters category ID's when you select value as what you show is typical of a drop down list and such a "use values from field" value list.
but nothing shows (because the number isn't a match to any of my value list categories).
Then you either need to change your value list to enter the names instead of the ID's or change your data model and data to match records by Category ID.
Hello and thanks again for your response. I have double checked the value lists and they are set to display the name field only of each of these lists but I'm still clearly getting ID numbers. I've tried changing the type of information the field is delivering as well and that makes no difference. Do you have any other suggestions that I should try? Thanks again in advance. Jenny
"Use value from field" value list always enter the data from the first field, the ID number. the fact that you set it to only show the second field value does not change this fact. (If changing which field value is visible changed what value was entered, there'd be no need to use the ID field at all in such a value list.)
