You can use an invisible tab control with two tabs with object names in this. Make the empty tab the default front tab. Use Go to Object ["Second tab object name"] to select the second tab and reveal the hidden field.
You can also manipulate a portal relationship or portal filter to hide and reveal layout objects in the same way.
