You could setup your date field to use the Auto-Enter feature to input the date when your Status field has "Closed" selected.
Go: 'File > Manage > Database...' and select your date field.
Click on the 'Options...' button and a dialog will pop-up.
Under the 'Auto-Enter' tab tick the box, or click on 'Specify...' next to 'Calculated Value' and in the Specify Calculation dialog input the following calculation
If ( Status = "Closed" ; Get ( CurrentDate ) )
Click 'OK' and And this should do the trick.
I hope this helps.
Wow thanks for the fast reply!!
I was halfway there in that I knew it must be something to do with the Auto Enter features but couldn't work out the rest so thank you very, very much.
I've tried what you suggested and it works perfectly! I was wondering though if it were possible to add a second If statement so that if the fault were ever re-opened with the status being set back to Open then the date would be removed? Looking at the functions I can't see something that obviously sounds to me like it would do this.
An easy way to do this will be to un-tick the option 'Do not replace existing value for field (if any)' and it will check each time the field is changed, and if the Status is not "Closed" it will be blank.
Be careful though as the date may update if you click into the pop-up menu and select Closed again, depends on the type of menu you use.
Once again thank you very much. There was I looking for a complicated function when all it needed was to uncheck a tickbox! It all works perfectly now.
I owe you one.
No worries, glad I could help.
