Not using a portal does not mean that you would have to use a separate table occurrence for each enzyme.
However, portals are routinely used in web published databases so you should be able to get that option to work. How does it "not work" for you?
When I look at your screen shot, you appear to list multiple portals, one for each type of enzyme. Whether or not you publish to the web, that doesn't look like the optimum format. A single line item portal where you select all enzymes would seem to be a much simpler interface design for both you and your users.
I found this setup and was able to get it to work on Filemaker Pro Advanced but not web publishing when trying to select part it changes the part number but does not change the other fields
Primary Key Foreign Key
AB_Workorder::AB_ID - AB_WorkorderItems::_idItems
(No Primary Key or foriegn key)
AB_WorkItems::PartNO - AB_Items_::PartNO
AB_WorkorderItems table has auto calculations that replace existing value in AB_Items (AB_Items_::PartNo AB_Items_::Price, AB_Items_::Description)
Part Number drop menu uses a value list from AB_Items
All this works until I test it on web publishing. where it just shows the part number
On a web published DB, you will need to submit the data back to the server after entering/selecting the part number before data from AB_Items_ will appear in the fields on your screen. As a test, try adding a small "submit" button that performs the Commit records step to your layout. See if the data appears as expected if you click that submit button after each selection of a part number.
Just realized the fix, if I'm right about what's going on. Discard the auto-enter calculation fields and place actual copies of the corresponding fields in AB_Items_ on your layout in place of what you had at first. (put Description from items in place of Description from workorder items) Does that work?
Thank you so much I would have been up for days trying to figure it out. Thanks :-)
I have to revisit this problem, What I found is as i add more enyzmes that has the same part number it hads it to the same record, it does not add a new record to the AB_Items table. I have it set to add records but its not. Any ideals...
I also just added one portal for all the part numbers but I believe I have to have a portal and table for each type of enyzme because the parts list is too long.
here is a better image, the other image had extra tables I added trying to fix the problem with no success. thanks
I also found that the duplication of the same record seems like it only happens on web publishing and not FM Pro desktop.
On which of the obove table occurrence "boxes" is your layout based?
On which are the individual portals you have shown based?
Portal is set for AB_WorkorderItems
Problems seems only to happen on the internet.
That did not answer my questions. I'm making sure that I understand the underlying design of your layout before I move forward with any suggestions.
Go into layout mode and check layout set up. What text is selected in this drop down? (It will match a table occurrence box from what you have in Manage | Database | Relationships.)
Go into layout mode and examine the text that appears in the lower left corner of each portal. What text appears there? (This will also be the name of a "box" from manage database | Relationships.)
And a new question:
Are there any portal filters defined for these portals?
Layout is selecting records from AB_Workorder
No Portal filters
And the portals?
