Exporting contact list from Instant Web Publishing to Program

      Post

We had to reinstall FileMaker Pro 9 on our computers and our only copy of our contact list is on the website (Instant Web Publishing). Is there a way to export those files? Thank you!

          Thank you for your post.

You cannot export via Instant Web Publishing.  Using your copy of FileMaker Pro, you should be able to open the file remotely and transfer the information to your computer.  Another possibility, in case File Sharing is not turned on, is to contact the person hosting the file via Instant Web Publishing and ask that person to export the data.

            Thank you your response!

Unfortunately, I am sort of new to this program and do not know how to do any of those things. All I do know is that all of the contacts we put up on Filemaker we did online. What steps are include to maybe import those contacts, or open a remote file?

            Thanks again

When you entered this information online, you were actually connecting to the FileMaker database which is either being served using FileMaker Server, or someone is hosting the file using FileMaker Pro.  You need to find the person that is hosting the file.

When you were entering information online, you may have been entering:

              http://<IP address>

The machine with the <IP address> is hosting the FileMaker database.  If you are running FileMaker Pro, pull down the File menu and select "Open Remote...".  You should then be presented with a list of servers and/or files that are accessible via FileMaker Pro.  At the bottom, enter:

              fmnet:/<IP address>/<name of file.fp7>

and you should then be connected to the file (providing the host file also has Network Sharing turned on along with Instant Web Publishing).

Let me know if you continue to have difficulty.
