Exporting to FTP server
I am trying to figure out how to export in Filemaker Pro to a folder I have set up on a FTP server. Is this possible to do without a plug-in? If so how? If not, which plug-in is best?
And what are you exporting? And in what format?
Export Records, Export Field Contents, and several script steps that start with "save" can all export from FileMaker. But what they export and the format of what they export can be different in each case.
I am exporting pictures, text, and various fields. I am not set on a format, just one that can export pictures easily. Do you have any suggestions?
But is this strictly a picture or a picture combined with data in other fields of your database?
To export just the picture, you can insert an image file into a container field and export field contents can export a copy of that file.
To export data that combines picture with data from your database fields, you can set up a layout that combines the picture and data the way you want it to look and use Save A PDF to save a PDF of that data to your FTP folder.
It is a picture combined with data in other fields.
The only issue with saving it as a PDF and exporting is that I have multiple tabs in the layout and I need to be able to see the data from each tab. Any other suggestions? Or could I export as a Filemaker file?
To repeat, create a layout that presents the data in the format that you want. Thus, you can create a new layout to use that does not hide the needed data in tabs and use it for saving the PDF.
OS ver? FMP ver? FTP or SFTP?
There are file plugins that support FTP, SFTPhttp://filemaker-plugins.com/features/ftp/
In OSX there is the CURL command that mixed with Applescript that can do ithttps://www.briandunning.com/cf/719
I need to have the tabs so a PDF will not work.
I am using Windows 7 Professional, FMP 12, and FTP. What I am trying to do is make changes to records on the Filemaker Go application when I do not have internet access, save locally on the iPad and then upload those changes to a FTP server once I do have a internet connection. I tried using the 360Works FTPeek plugin but when I try to export the file I get the error message that the file could not be created on this disk.
I didn't say to get rid of your tabs. KEEP your tabs. Make a new layout just for the PDF. Keep your current layout and use it like you always have.
But a PDF is not a file format from which you can import data back into FileMaker.
