Is there a way to create Favorite Hosts entries for all users logging onto a machine?
I'm aware of HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\FileMaker\FileMaker Pro\12.0\FavHostInfo, but I need to make the entry for all users.
I am sure your are using Open Remote.... to pick the Properly set up network access.
I use and stock email with instructions and the IP address to all users. That seems to work best.
I have no idea what open remote is...
so there is no way to set favorite hosts for all users, i.e , write to HKLM, or something?
Under the File menu in FMP you MUST use Open Remote.... to set favorite hosts.
You can't get a list of Host computers such as favorite hosts without using Open Remote. In addition to selecting Open Remote from the file menu, you can click the "remote" button in the dialog that pops up when you launch the FileMaker application.
Let me rephrase the original question, because I suspect it was misunderstood.
Is there a way to set up a favorite host entry on a computer so all users will see it on their list of favorite hosts?
We have 15 FileMaker users, and about 24 computers that they can log on to. So, in order for the users to be able to log on to our two FileMaker servers on any computer they can log on to, I'd need to set up:
15 x 24 x 2 = 720 favorite host entries in all. And do that while each user is logged in to a particular machine.
I have written up a nice set of directions, with screen shots, but it still takes each user quite of bit of valuable time to set up a new favorite host. If I could enter something on every computer to make the hosts show up when the user goes to open a file, that would be way cool.
