HAvent tried this but you may be able to put the field label under the field and have the field transparent.
How can I have the field name appear in the field for the user?
Even a label OVER an opaque field.
( the label with a conditional formatting [ IsEmpty ( YourField ) ] of text color [ from white to grey ] and size [ from 1 to 12 ] )
BTW: you'll need a tooltip for your field with this calc:
Substitute ( GetFieldName ( Self ) ; Get ( LayoutName ) & "::" ; "" )
so you'll ever know the name of the field ( even if it is not empty ).
Make the field name the default data. That will show the field names to be overridden. Of course you wouldn't do this for fields where you have default data already.
Make the field name the default data.I recommend not to joke with the data. An empty field MUST remain empty.
thanks for you thoughts on this problem; i'd have gotten back earlier but i've been moving internationally and its all a bit of a mess right now.
For the time being, i've decided to go with the clunky, yet simple solution of just keeping the field names in there, although Daniele's solution looks like a viable one.
