I want to have the data entry person select a day of week and have the week of fiscal year atuomatically calculated, this part i have figured out.
I don't follow that. Why would selecting "Monday" specifiy a different week of the fiscal year than selecting "Tuesday"?
It is possible to set up a unique values validation rule on an auto-entered calculation field that combines the UserID with a value from the field that identifies the fiscal week--but I need to understand that first part before I go into more detail than that.
I guess what I mean to say is, the user could pick any Date of a week on a calendar and it will generate the week of the fiscal year.
I want them to create a weekly report for the same client userID with no duplicate weeks.
Hope this makes things clear.
Ok, I know of such a calculation. I'll call it FiscalWeek.
Then define a text field as UniqueKey and give it this auto-enter calcualiton:
FiscalWeek & " " & UserID
Now you can set a unique values validation rule on UniqueKey and it will pop up an error message if the user attempts to create a records where that combination of UserID and FiscalWeek already exist.
Thank you PhilModJunk !
After creating the new field as you described and adding a custom validation rule, things are working as desired.
I even added a verification failure message. Look at me go!
I appreciate the quick response and clarification dialogue.
