It sounds like you are having permission issues with the file.
You will have to excuse me on this, im fairly new to mac's but I see lots of posts suggesting creating new user accounts / trashing preference files to test further. Of course, this could be a FM8 problem too but it doesn't sound like it..
Sorry if I'm completely wrong, but since the forums are being put into read only mode shortly I thought its better to take a shot in the dark, rather than leave you hanging...
I can still access it, open it, search it - just can't modify. If it was permisson wouldn't it say - you don't have privillages? or somehting like that?
Thanks so much for getting back so quick!
Im mainly a Windows user msyelf,
If a file is read only, I can open it fine, but any attempt to modify data (either manually or scripted) causes me to get the same message you get on the mac.
Cool - I'll try trashing the prefs. Where do I find them (so i don't delete the wrong ones!)
Before you do, Right click on the fp7 file, choose Get Info and see if you have privileges to modify the file.
The FileMaker Pro 8 preferences file is in [home folder]/Library/Preferences/FileMaker Preferences/FileMaker Pro 8.0 Prefs.
But to be safe, I would probably just move it to the desktop rather than trashing it..
Like I say, Im no expert with the mac, Im still finding my way around ;-)
I opened Get Info and added my new computer to the sharing & read and write the file.
YOu were spot on with the privillages bit - wish FM said - you need access privilages instead!
Thanks so much
