Mark Richman (Skeleton Key)
Many of us started in our development career the same way – as a solo developer, working for ourselves. Few of us ever planned to do more than that, happy to work on a small number of projects for a small number of clients. At some point, many of us have encountered the need, desire or calling to do more, and to try and grow our fledging consultancy into a true business. We’ll use this session to discuss some of the milestones, choices and pitfalls that you’ll encounter as you plot and travel the course from sole-proprietorship to corporate entity.
What you should know
A basic understanding of simple business concepts (e.g., sole-proprietorships vs different corporate structures; employees vs contractors; income vs expenses) will be useful, but is not essential.
