FileMaker can do lots of awesome things but sometimes you need some help from an external source. Enter the world of the Web Service (or API) to help us solve pretty much any task imaginable. We’ll begin with a quick primer on how to connect to an external API using FileMaker scripting and the Insert from URL script step. We’ll touch on dealing with JSON API responses, and then look in more depth at processing XML responses and accessing deeply nested data using XPath functions. Lastly, we’ll look at building custom APIs to expose FileMaker to the world.
What you should know
A basic understanding of FileMaker scripting and an interest in accessing shared data (or sharing yours).
